Santa Teresa is a small, but fast growing town in Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. Like other coastal villages on the Nicoya Peninsula, it started as a remote fishing village. In the early 1990s it was discovered by low budget tourists and started growing since then. It is stretched over 5 kilometres (3 mi) of gravel roads. It is still a remote place with basic infrastructure (few shops, some internet cafés), but with a substantial number of available hotels (from December - March it is advised to reserve in advance). There are now more than 30 hotels, ranging in price from $10 -$1000 per night.
Santa Teresa is for known for white/gold sand beaches, good surf conditions and a relaxing atmosphere. It has also become known for its many excellent restaurants, all started by various chefs who have moved to the area from various other countries. Although bars and pubs offer some night activities, Santa Teresa is more popular for its SURFING!!!! The coast along the town, as well as south and north, shows different breaks and a constant swell all year. Many hotels and surf instructors offer their surfing-related services.
